Pricing Guide

How much does private label coffee cost?

The honest breakdown of what your own coffee brand really costs — per pound, per bag, and the hidden lines nobody quotes.

The short answer

Private label roasted coffee typically runs $7–$15 per pound depending on quality, origin and volume — specialty micro-lots higher. Add $0.35–$1.50 per bag for printed packaging, a one-time design investment, and shipping. Retailing a 12–13 oz bag at $14–$24 leaves healthy margin at every quality tier. Some programs start at minimums as low as ~22 lbs; most quote by project. Cafentity’s private-label minimum is 100 lbs.

What moves the price

Coffee quality & origin

Commercial-grade blends sit at the bottom of the range; scored specialty lots and rare origins (Puerto Rican coffee among the world’s most limited) command the top.

Order volume

Per-pound pricing drops meaningfully at volume tiers; roasting runs and freight both get cheaper per unit.

Packaging choices

Stock bags with labels are cheapest to start; fully printed bags look best on shelves but carry print minimums (often 1,000+ bags).

The hidden line: reprints

Most first-time brands pay for packaging twice — wrong dieline, missing compliance text, bad color. A press-ready design from a studio that knows coffee bags avoids the do-over entirely.

Cost questions brands ask

What margin should I expect selling my own coffee?

Independent brands typically target 40–60% gross margin at retail. A bag costing $6–$9 all-in (coffee + packaging + freight) selling at $16–$20 is a common healthy structure.

Is design included in private label programs?

Rarely — most roasters print whatever file you send. Cafentity is different: the Studio designs original art and press-ready dielines, and the same partner roasts and fills the bag.

Can I start small and scale?

Yes — the smart path is a small first run with labeled stock bags to validate, then printed packaging and bigger runs as sales prove out.
